A Drive Towards Gender Equality on Women's Day

‘A gender-equal society would be one where the word ‘gender’ does not exist: where everyone can be themselves.’

International Women's Day is observed around the world every year to honor the status of women in society. However, this year's Women's Day was held in school premises with a total difference as it raised awareness not only on recognition of women but also on the generally ignored part of the society, the Trans People on Thursday, March 10, 2022.

The programme commenced with Lamp lightening Ceremony by distinguished guests President and Founder of NGO Aarohan and Co-member of Human Rights Commission, Ms. Rani Patel; India’s first International trans Beauty Queen, Ms. Naaz Joshi, Mr. Shashi Sahai Treasurer of Aarohan, Mrs. Aarti Dawar Sud- HR & Admin Head of Aarohan, Ms. Deepika the Executive member of Aarohan and honorable Director Sir Mr. Somesh Rishi Pathak and our revered Principal Ma’am Mrs. Rooma Pathak followed by felicitation and a token of appreciation of these torchbearers by our esteemed Director Sir and our Principal Madam whose address to the audience was quite encouraging and motivating.

The school made a revolutionary shift on this day by launching the project Indradhanush- Spectrum of Genders which aims to create a colorful world denoting the message of peace, solidarity, free of discrimination, inequality thus, taking a step forward for the inclusion of Trans People into the mainstream.

The school also made a significant collaboration with the NGO Aarohan which works for the welfare of Trans People. The first international Trans Beauty Queen was acknowledged as an Ambassador of Indradhanush which is for the first time any school has ever initiated.

The heart-touching words by Ms. Naaz Joshi influenced each and every one. Then, the documentary of Aarohan was followed by empowering words of the president of Aarohan, Ms. Rani Patel.

For the first time in any school, the Fashion Show was staged to give due recognition to the Trans People. All 20 Divas from NGO Aarohan created an aura of positivity in this unique and unusual Fashion Show. Gratitude cards by students of class IX and XI along with gift hampers won their hearts and made them proud of themselves. International Trans Beauty Queen Ms. Naaz Joshi as a showstopper of this fashion show was acknowledged as an ambassador of Indradhanush with a crown and a sashe as well as a token of appreciation. The trans divas were excited and shared their personal experiences with the guests, students and teachers which gave a glimpse of their being accepted as members of the mainstream.

Thus, this motivating event with the support of sponsors Nature Pure LS and Lakme the International cosmetic brand was a great success. All in All, under the guidance of our honorable Principal ma’am Mrs. Rooma Pathak this inspirational event sent a message that educators as catalysts can eradicate gender insensitivity and if Principals, as well as the school community, want to make a difference in society, they can make it and establish a great nation.
